Children’s Dentistry – Dedham, MA
Creating Beautiful Smiles for Life
Dr. Patil loves working with children of all ages, including one-year-olds who are visiting their dentist for the first time. The kind of dental care your child receives early in life is pivotal; if their smiles are well-cared for early on, they’ll be less likely to have to deal with cavities and other oral health issues that are all too common during childhood. Call our dental office today for children's dentistry if your child is ready for their first appointment or hasn’t had a checkup in the last six months.

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings for Kids
Dental checkups and cleanings should begin no later than your child’s first birthday or six months after their first tooth erupts. We know that a first dental visit can be stressful for young children, so we’ll help them get used to their surroundings and take whatever steps are needed to help them stay comfortable and happy while their teeth are being looked at. We offer age-appropriate checkups and cleanings for children of all ages, and we can help you monitor their oral development so that you can act fast if something unusual happens.
Dental Sealants
Children need time to get the hang of brushing their teeth, particularly when it comes to the hard-to-reach, pit-filled molars near the back of the mouth. Unfortunately, oral bacteria are not going to wait for your little one to develop their oral hygiene skills. You need to take steps to make sure your child’s at-risk teeth are safe, and one way to do that is to visit Dr. Patil so that she can place sealants. Said sealants will provide an additional layer of defense against cavities until your child is able to keep their molars clean on their own.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is important for smiles of all ages, but for children with teeth that are still developing it’s absolutely crucial. Being exposed to fluoride early in life makes teeth stronger and less prone to cavities. We may include a fluoride treatment as part of your child’s regular checkups. All we need to do is apply a concentrated fluoride gel or varnish directly to the teeth so that the enamel can absorb it. This process is completely safe, and it can be done in just a few minutes.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Even with daily brushing and flossing, cavities can sometimes form in your child’s mouth despite your best efforts. We can remove the decayed parts of the tooth and replace the lost enamel with a filling, which stops the cavity from getting any bigger and lets your child continue to use the tooth normally while they eat or speak. And by using tooth-colored filling material, we can make it look as though the tooth was never damaged in the first place.
Athletic Mouthguards
As much as you might want to encourage your child to pursue their favorite sport, it’s hard not to be worried about the thought of them losing a tooth to a sudden blow to the face. Even if your young athlete isn’t required to wear an athletic mouthguard, it’s best to make sure they have one before stepping foot on the field or the court. Our mouthguards are different than the ones that you might find in a store; each one is customized to be a perfect fit and to offer the best possible protection.
